As one of the premier vacation capitals of the United States, Florida is brimming with countless natural wonders, cultural sites, recreational activities and entertainment options for every type of traveler imaginable. So whether you’re looking to bask by the sun and sea, or hit the clubs for a night on the town, knowing what to expect and budget for can help you get the most out of your Florida vacation

Here are some of the top considerations when calculating how much your Florida trip will cost:

What to Expect

The cost of your Florida trip will depend on several factors, such as the length of your stay, number of travelers in your party, and vacation itinerary.

On average, Florida visitors end up spending about $187 per day on overall expenses and activities. If you’re taking a solo trip, expect to pay around $1,200 per week—with couples’ vacations running around $1,700, and between $3,900 and $4,000 for a family of four.

Keep in mind that children’s tickets are cheaper and hotel rooms can be shared. Staying for longer periods of time can also reduce your daily budget.

When you choose to travel may also affect how much things will cost. The major tourism seasons in Florida extend from December through April, and this is when you’ll experience the highest prices for travel, lodgings, and activities. June through November offers lower prices and more availability of hotel rooms and airline tickets—although there’s a higher chance of experiencing storms, insects, and hot, humid weather.

Travel Expenses

Your travel expenses can vary greatly, depending on a number of factors.

Getting There

The average price range for a flight to Florida is between $549 and $942 per person for economy, and $1,724 to $2,958 for first class.

If you plan to arrive by sea, cruise prices vary based on the duration of the trip, cruise line and choice of accommodations—but the typical cost of a three- to five-day cruise to Florida ranges between $180 to $700 per person.

An Amtrak train ride to Florida costs around $100 to $200 if you’re coming from the East Coast. If you’re departing from elsewhere, you’ll have to find connecting routes, which could end up costing more.

Getting Around

Undoubtedly, the cheapest and most convenient way to get around Florida is by car, so consider renting one for the duration of your stay. On average, this runs about $35 per day—while a taxi ride is about $37.

Depending on where you’re staying and what activities you’re seeking, public transportation could also be the preferred option. The price of a one-way Metrorail or Metrobus ride is $2.50, with an all-day pass costing $5.65.

There are also ample rideshare options such as Uber and Lyft if you need a convenient, last-minute mode of travel.

Hotels & Accommodations

Hotels in Florida typically range from $67 to $328 per night based on your choice of room and hotel. There are many vacation homes available for rent—generally running $200 to $560 per night.

You can also find cheaper vacation rentals and AirBnB reservations for as low as $20 per night—however, you’ll have to book early to ensure there is availability.

Food & Drinks

Food prices in Florida vary, but travelers generally spend about $46 per day on food—with the average meal costing around $19 per person.

Florida boasts a vibrant nightlife, and vacationers typically spend about $25 daily on alcoholic beverages.

Activities & Entertainment

The amount spent on activities and entertainment will depend on what you plan to do. There are endless things for visitors of all kinds to enjoy. If you know what you want to do ahead of your trip, it’s best to book or reserve your spot in advance.

As the theme park capital of the country, Florida is home to Orlando’s Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, SeaWorld, and more. Usually, a one-day ticket ranges from $109 to $159, depending on the type of pass and chosen dates.

There are also free activities and attractions for visitors of all ages, along with world-class beaches and parks to spend the day without having to strain your wallet.
