So, you’ve got the travel itch. But where do you want to go?
Unless you’re the spontaneous type that either throws a dart at a world map to determine your next destination or you show up at the airport on just a wish and a dream, you’re probably going to want to plan something out.

And we get it – figuring out where exactly to go can be a little overwhelming. Especially if you want to change things up from your usual vacation routine.
Here are five steps to help you figure out where you should explore next!
1. How long do you want to travel for?
Let’s talk about time-constraints. The amount of time you have carved out for your trip will heavily influence where you can go. If you only have 5 days free but it takes an entire day to get to a far-off dream country, it probably isn’t worth it this time around.
Let your availability help you to shrink (or increase!) your potential travel time radius.
2. What is your budget?
How deep your pockets go for this particular trip will have another big role on where you can go. It’s a really good idea to bring in a travel agent to help you – they have the inside scoop on your best rates and will be able to get you the most bang for your buck.
3. Are you looking for a cultural experience?
Sometimes we just get the urge to immerse ourselves in a foreign culture, and other times we just want to veg out with some drinks and some sun. Think about what you want to get out of this trip – how are you feeling? If you’re looking to just get away without a cultural experience, it’s going to be a real shock to the system if you find yourself in a new world with a new language and newer food. Utilize your travel agent to help you to determine which countries (if you plan on going international) will feel the most comfortable for you.
4. What kind of activities are you looking to get into?
Are you the great outdoorsy type? Maybe you’ll enjoy a scenic hike or some white-water rafting. Are you looking to visit art galleries, eat really good food or enjoy some water sports? Think about the kinds of things you want to do on your trip and let your travel agent offer you some advice on which places might be right up your alley.
5. What kind of environment do you want to be in?
Looking for fun in the sun? Want to chill out in some cooler weather? Are you in to a tucked away country cottage or do you want the bright lights of a big city? Determine the type of environment you want to be in to help guide you on your journey to the perfect destination.
